Do you agree with the Australian Green's philosophy that human life and animal life is of equivalent value?

Discuss metaphysical experiences such as lucid dreaming, astral travel and out of body experiences, etc.

Senator Bob Brown and Professor Peter Singer a teacher of humanist philosophy at the University of Melbourne and later at Princeton University in the USA co - authored a book on green philosophy called "Greens". It sets out the Green's Party philosophy and outlines the belief strongly held by Professor Singer in particular, that animal life is equivalent to human life and that there is no spiritual aspect to it and certainly no consideration of a higher being. What are your thoughts on this aspects of the Greens philosophy as they are not just about the environment?

That is a very left-wing, Los Angeles Liberal viewpoint. Also very naive and dumb

I believe how we treat animals has a direct consequence on our own lives... in the sense that we treat other animals as if they don't matter... so in turn we treat each other like we don't matter. There needs to be some serious changes in how meat for food is processed. If your brave enough you can watch a film such as 'Earthlings' to see what I mean.

But on the book itself and the people involved I have no idea if I agree with them or not, I've never read the book.

In my heart of hearts I can not look at my daughter and my cat and see an equivalent value ... with or without spiritual aspect of a consideration of a high being. The words of an ivory tower intellect ... and stupid words at that.

Respect for all living things is the key and if we had followed this philosophy when Australia became a nation our indigenous people wouldn't have ended up being classed as flora and fauna.

You will also find that people who don't have an agenda and genuinely believe in a higher power also believe in respecting everything God created.
